Lesson 13 A new dress
colour n. 颜色 = color（美） colorless = colourless 无色的、不生动的
green adj. 绿色
green house 温室 植物多为绿色，因此green经常代表植物。植物住的房子就是“温室”。
You are green. 你还嬾着呢。 You are a green hand. 你是一个新手。 green形容人时表示“不成熟”
upstairs adj. 楼上
Come / go upstairs. Go / come downstairs.
downstairs 在楼下，下楼
stair 楼梯 往楼上的楼梯，引申出到楼上去。
smart adj. 时髦的，漂亮的，巧妙的，聪明的 n. 刺痛, 痛苦
What’s a smart black jacket! 多漂亮的夹克啊。
He is a smart guy. 他是个聪明的家伙 You are smart. 你不错。挺灵的。
Don’t be too smart. 难得糊涂。
hat n. 帽子 四边带沿的帽子，或者比较绅士，淑女的帽子。 cap 运动帽
pass the hat 凑钱，要钱 把帽子翻过来，往进扔钱，这种帽子都是四周带沿的。
same adj. 相同的
- John is tall. John个子很高。
- Same here. = Me too. 我也一样啊。我也不矮啊。 here 这里，指的是自己，表示和…一样。
- Happy new year. 新年快乐。
- The same to you. 同乐同乐。
lovely adj. 可爱的
名词 + ly = 形容词，代表该名词特征。
friendly 友善的，象朋友一样的 she is a friendly girl.
womanly 温柔的，娴淑的,有女人味的 具有女性特征的。
colour n. 颜色 = color（美）
what colour is / are …?
What make is …? 什么车牌？
- That’s a nice dress. It’s very smart. 瞧啊，多好的裙子。真漂亮。
- The colour is too loud. 这个颜色太艳了。
loud 高声的,不断的,喧吵的; [口]（衣服, 颜色）过分鲜艳的,俗气的,过分花哨的;（举止）冒失的;略带粗俗的
suit n, 套装
v.合适 必须上下内外都比较配套、合适、得体，所以suit这个词做服装讲主要是指西装革履，
做动词则引申为合适的意思。 The colour suits Lily very much. 这颜色对Lily很合适。
come v. 来
come on（催促）快点来；（耍赖，拖延）拜托，得了吧， 少来这一套；过来；
come on in 请进 easy come, easy go. 来得容易，去得容易。
Come on. I’m not 18 years old again. 拜托，得了吧。
Come on. Two more stairs. 加油，就两级楼梯了。
go：去，加油
come in 请进
smart adj. 时髦的，巧妙的
① 漂亮的，时髦的，巧妙的
You look smart in that new dress.
② 聪明的，伶俐的，精明的
He is a smart businessman.

the same +名词
It’s the same colour. 同样的颜色。
It’s the same car. 同一辆车。
It’s the same school. 同一所学校。
same绝对形容词，通常与定冠词the连用，表示“同一的”、“相同的”
two boys of the same age 两个同龄的男孩子

bookcase 书柜 suitcase 手提箱，旅行箱 pencilcase 铅笔盒
carpet n. 地毯 no pets 请勿带宠物入内。
red carpet 浓重接待，贵宾待遇，殷勤的 （需要铺红地毯的场合都是比较浓重的场合）
green carpet 赌桌 西方人的迷信中如果桌子中有亮光会不吉利，会输钱，所以通常铺一块绿色的布。
dog n. 狗
puppy 小狗 puppy love 早恋 （小猫小狗似的爱）
Dog days 三伏天 也可引申为“无所作为的时期, 无精打彩的日子”，大热天什么事都不想做，只想打磕睡。
